Audiobook Tag

Discovering audiobooks in the past couple of years has been a joy and they bring so much more to reading and making the characters feel real. So, when I saw Elysa @ WordsWordsWords do this tag, I wanted to share my thoughts too. And don’t forget to checkout Elysa’s blog for some more fun and amazing bookish content.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS LISTENED TO AUDIOBOOK OR WHEN DID YOU BEGIN?

I started listening to audiobooks during the winter of 2016 because it gave me a relaxing way to read books while commuting to work.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUDIOBOOK?

Wow this is a pretty difficult choice to make. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah (which also happens to be my first ever audiobook experience) will always remain a favorite. I also love Stephen Fry’s narration of Sherlock Holmes and his recent one Mythos is super fun. And Him will always be my most favorite romance novel as well as audiobook.

WHAT IS MY LEAST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT AUDIOBOOKS?

I think it is when I feel that the narrator is unable to differentiate voices for the various characters.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE DIFFERENCE IN EXPERIENCE BETWEEN PHYSICALLY READING A BOOK AND LISTENING TO IT?

I probably retain a lot more information when I read the book but listening to an audiobook with an awesome narrator makes me feel very close to the characters and connect to them better.

HOW AND WHEN DO YOU LISTEN?

If I’m unable to find an ebook, I listen to the audio and don’t really have a time preference. But I also love rereading my favorite books through audio and just put them on in the night, and sleep while listening to them.

WHAT STYLE/GENRE DO YOU PREFER?

I have found that memoirs narrated by the authors themselves are a lot of fun. And romance novels which have different narrators for each POV are always my favorites. I don’t always find it easy to listen to fantasy audios, but I love them for rereads.

WHAT ARE SOME AUDIOBOOK/NARRATOR RECOMMENDATIONS?

HimThe Poet X, Six of Crows and A Dead Djinn in Cairo are some of my highly recommended audiobooks and their narrators are some of the best I’ve heard till date.

Blowout

Rachel Maddow deserves a separate mention because her narration of Blowout was absolutely brilliant and her brilliant storytelling style (which we are familiar from her show) works so well with the kind of expansive global geopolitical narrative she is building in this book.

Memoirs like Becoming, Naturally Tan, Born a Crime, and How We Fight for Our Lives are also way more interesting to listen than to read because the authors are such amazing narrators.

Murderbot Diaries is a very recent favorite of mine and I can’t not mention that the audiobooks are absolutely delightful and made me giggle and laugh so much.
